If you’re just looking to install Apache & PHP for general use, you are better off using the packaged binaries via aptitude. But if you are setting up for a production environment accessible via the web. Installing from source is the best option in my opinion.
Normally it’s a piece of cake to install software on Ubuntu, thanks to aptitude/apt-get. Package managers seem to make the world go round these days. But sometimes the software you want doesn’t exist in the repositories. What do you do then? Answer, download the source and get your hands dirty!
