Well, I just finished updating the site!

…and it wasn’t exactly as easy as I thought it was going to be originally.  New features in WordPress that weren’t there before, are here now and they weren’t happy when they showed up.  But after tracking down the problems, I was pleased to find out the site is actually running a bit smoother than it was before.  Much much less of the site still relies upon timthumb.php to handle the images.  Which is a good thing!

TimThumb.php is a handy script for sure, but it doesn’t seem to scale very well.  Whenever the site would come under load it was always lacking when it came to the image processing.  But don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on the script or its creator.  Chances are I didn’t have it tuned as well as one could hope for, my Codefoo isn’t that strong.

All in all, I’m quite pleased with the new Arras Theme.  Still a few glitches here when it comes to widgets, but that just seems to be the going trend when it comes to WordPress.

For now, however I’ve reverted back to the default WordPress search instead of Google’s API.  I’ll bring it back soon, so don’t go cryin about it!

Things to Come!

I’ve got some plans for more depth in the site, reaching out to the other popular distributions, even some Windows and OS X stuff.  But seeing as it’s a one man show, that all comes down upon me to make that happen.

Come back soon, it’s gonna be a wild one!  In the mean time, follow me on Twitter or Subscribe to the RSS feed and say what up!
