If you have ever used Windows, you know what I’m talking about. I was reorganizing my desktop and I decided to have nothing on it except a shortcut to my Download folder. So, I cleared it out, but I stuck at the point of the short cut. However I found it out pretty soon and I would like to share that experience with you. It is done in three simple steps:
- Right click on the folder you want to create a shortcut to
- Click “Make Link” on the context menu
- Drag-and-Drop or Copy-Paste the created shortcut to your desktop (or wherever you like)
Yes, that’s this simple. Great, isn’t it? and this is how my rearranged Ubuntu desktop looks now.
Please share your thought with us below at the comments.

What if you get an error like this:
“error while creating link to (drive folder label).
The target doesn’t support symbolic links”.
Is this a permission issue?
