hello im new in linux so i need help in this >>> when i want to start doing this guide then i fail in 1. task ‘ $ sudo modprobe tun ‘
when i write it then nothing happens so please help me how to continue :)

Hey Kieron, I’m sure you are having problems with Hamachi on Linux. There’s numerous other problems with running Hamachi on Linux if you have any other nodes using the latest v2.x software from LogMeIn.

At this point it’s pretty much a lost cause to try to get Hamachi running due to LogMeIn having left Linux support out all together. They “say” they are working on it, but it’s been almost 9 months now and that’s all they ever say is, “We’re working on it”.

I’m actually in the process of writing a pretty indepth tutorial on other alternatives to Hamachi. The good news is, there’s a few free one’s that literally blow Hamachi out of the water feature and support wise.

If you can wait another day or so until I can finish the new tutorial with my findings on alternative vpn software, you’ll save yourself a ton of headaches!

I’m being told that I’m only logged in as a guest. What does this mean? How can I change this? It has [Guest] next to my hostname on the website.

Please help, can’t even find anything about it on the internet! :(

Very nice tutorial! Thanks.
worked 98%. If I reboot – then Hamachi starts – but does not connect (Flashing green icon on the windows client viewer)
If I ssh into the box and start manually then it works fine.

Thanks 4 this nice tutorial. I’ll try it soon.. I have hamachi running on Windows XP. But I want it to run on my Ubuntu machine too.. :)

I’ve noticed little glitches like this as well. Are you using the latest version of hamachi? I’ve noticed they’ve released some major updates to their other clients. I haven’t put much time into hamachi as of late, but it’s worth lookin into.

Ok so after doing all this hamachi starts up fine and when i do hamachi -list i see all the hosts in my network. It works for some time i can ping the hosts can telnet / ssh to it. But after a while may be 1 or 2 min it stops. I still can see host list doing hamachi -list but i can’t ping or telnet / ssh to it.

I am using Ubuntu Karmic

If you use etckeeper you’ll get an error using apt-get due to the special file /etc/hamachi/ipc_sock as shown below. This error might cause a loop in the apt installation process using the Synaptic or apt-get so you should not ignore it.

skipping /etc/hamachi/ipc_sock (can’t add file of kind ‘socket’)
etckeeper warning: special files could cause problems with bzr:
./hamachi/ipc_sock

To resolve this issue add that file to the SCM ignore list for the client you have configured etckeeper to use. In my case I executed the following command:

$ cd /etc $$ sudo bzr ignore “hamachi/ipc_sock” $$ sudo etckeeper commit
